00:01 I know you've done some animated work before,

00:03 but how does "Praise Petey"

00:04 compare to your past animated works?

00:06 - It was such a bizarrely strange and hilarious experience.

00:14 I think that Anna Drazen, who created the show,

00:18 her mind is a deeply bizarre and wonderful place.

00:24 And it really kind of pulls out all the stuff.

00:28 The fact that it's animated means anything is possible,

00:31 and they've really leaned into that.

00:33 And it's fun 'cause it's like, it's adult humor.

00:36 It's like very adult humor.

00:38 And I haven't been able to do that before.

00:40 So it was very freeing.

00:41 - Yeah, it is such an interesting premise.

00:44 And like you said, it is very adult-oriented.

00:47 What did you think about it when you were pitched it

00:49 and just the whole idea of the show itself?

00:52 - I loved it.

00:53 I mean, I've always loved a good cult story or documentary.

00:58 I think it's just such a, there's so much to draw on.

01:03 And the thought of a woman inheriting a cult

01:08 from her dead dad, it just felt right.

01:12 It just felt like the right story to tell.

01:15 And like a few pages in, when I found out

01:17 that my character was dating a literal plank of wood,

01:21 I knew that Anna and I had very similar senses of humor.

01:25 So I was not disappointed.

01:27 - Yeah, inheriting a cult isn't something we see

01:30 on many TV shows and movies.

01:31 That definitely does make this show unique in itself.

01:35 Did you find yourself being similar to Petey at all?

01:38 And if so, how?

01:39 - I mean, I guess there have been times in my life

01:46 where I've had an idea and instead of saying it out loud,

01:50 I whisper it and then shimmy and then apologize.

01:54 Working on getting better at that.

01:56 (laughing)

01:57 I think, you know, not feeling 100% comfortable

02:02 in your own skin, but working hard to figure out

02:05 how to get there, that's a similarity.

02:07 Otherwise, she's on a whole other page.

02:14 - Yeah, yeah, absolutely.

02:15 We see that so much of the show is kind of a lot

02:17 about her starting off kind of on the top

02:20 and then she has to kind of falls to the bottom

02:21 and has to figure things out.

02:23 In a way, the premise isn't that different

02:25 in parts of "Schitt's Creek."

02:26 Did you see any similarities in that kind of going

02:29 from the top to the bottom and just being like,

02:30 "Gotta figure out this next step."

02:32 - Oh, for sure.

02:33 And I also got to pull out my vocal fry

02:36 that I kept in the closet for a few years.

02:38 So I got to bring that-

02:39 - A little bit of access.

02:40 - Yeah, yeah, totally.

02:42 So yes, there are certainly some similarities

02:45 in those two shows, but there are jokes made

02:52 in "Praise Petey" that would have never seen

02:55 the light of day on network television in "Schitt's Creek."

02:58 - And I guess that's the power

02:59 of doing animated shows as well, right?

03:01 - Totally, yeah, 100%.

03:04 - There are so many great co-stars

03:05 that you're in a show with.

03:07 Did you get to get to know any of these people

03:09 or were you separate just doing the recordings?

03:11 - That's the one downside of doing voice work

03:15 is that you're all alone for the most part.

03:18 I still haven't met any of my castmates in person,

03:21 but we're lucky.

03:23 I mean, it was also thick in COVID times

03:26 when we were doing a lot of the recording,

03:28 but we did a table read of every episode over Zoom.

03:33 So you get a sense of the vibe and the chemistry,

03:38 and it was nice to be able to put faces

03:41 and names to everybody.

03:43 And I hope we get to cross paths in real life

03:47 one of these days.

03:47 It's strange not having done that.

03:50 - Yeah, it's a good group, Christine Baranski, Steven Rue.

03:53 I mean, you guys have all done so many different things,

03:55 so it's fun to see you all involved

03:56 in this sole project together.

03:58 - It's amazing.

03:59 It's just, and like real pros.

04:02 Like I felt like a kid showing up to school,

04:05 but I'm in very, very good company.

04:08 - Absolutely.

04:09 Which character between Petey and a different character

04:11 did you enjoy the dynamic of the most?

04:14 Like, was there a certain character

04:15 that you loved that dynamic fleshed out?

04:17 - I love the classic will they, won't they

04:22 of Jon Chauve's character, Bandit, and Petey.

04:26 They kind of, it's like a love,

04:29 very love, very hate relationship

04:32 fraught with a whole bunch of sexual tension,

04:35 which was very fun to play.

04:37 And so that one's a lot of fun to do.

04:41 - Are you hoping to get more involved in animated

04:44 as time goes on?

04:45 I mean, you do have history of doing so,

04:46 but is this kind of rejuvenated your interest

04:48 in being involved in animated projects?

04:51 - Oh, a hundred percent.

04:52 I think it's so much fun and so different

04:55 from film and TV acting.

04:57 And like, when you shoot a season of TV,

05:01 it's like, you know, three or four or five months

05:04 of your life.

05:05 And so to be able to be part of a project

05:08 I'm super proud of and having only done

05:10 like a handful of hours to make it,

05:14 is really cool.

05:16 - Yeah.

05:17 What do you think your fans' reaction and response

05:18 is gonna be to this show?

05:19 - I mean, if they have weird, dirty minds,

05:25 they're gonna love it so much.

05:27 - It's the show for them.

05:29 - Yes.

05:30 - That's probably the best way to promote it right there.

05:33 - That's all I need to hear, weird, dirty.

05:36 That's it.

05:38 - Yeah.

05:39 My last question for you is kind of a two-parter.

05:41 How would Petey get along with Alexis Rose

05:43 and Joan from "Black Mirror"?

05:45 How would she get along with each of those two?

05:47 - Oh goodness.

05:48 I feel like Alexis and Petey would either be best friends

05:54 or like mortal enemies.

05:56 And I feel like Joan would maybe be a bit dull for Petey.

06:03 She's a little boring.

06:05 - Yeah.

06:06 Yeah, absolutely.

06:07 And just real quick, what was your thoughts

06:09 about the reaction to the "Black Mirror" episode?

06:11 You were getting praised for your work

06:12 and you were fantastic, I will say that.

06:15 - Thank you so much.

06:16 It's been, it really does feel like

06:19 I'm in a "Black Mirror" episode

06:20 having been in a "Black Mirror" episode.

06:22 Like I've been such a fan of that show.

06:25 And then to have worked with Selma Hayek,

06:28 like I still haven't fully wrapped my brain

06:30 around the experience.

06:31 It was so much fun.

06:32 And I'm so happy that people are digging it

06:35 as much as they are.

06:37 - Yeah, and I think they're gonna dig this next thing too.

06:39 So I'm super excited for "Praise Petey"

06:41 and congrats on being involved
