Home Secretary Sulla Braverman has urgently called for a ban on American Bully XL dogs, deeming them "lethal" after a recent attack on an 11-year-old girl in Birmingham. The incident, captured in an online video, highlights their specific threat to children. West Midlands Police say they are actively investigating the matter.

Birmingham City Council Financial Crisis

Birmingham City Council's financial crisis, characterised as 'burying its head in the sand' over equal pay liability by a claimant's lawyer, has resulted in over £1b in compensation to underpaid workers. On Tuesday, the council declared itself effectively bankrupt, citing an additional £760m in equal pay liability, and had previously apologised for not managing the issue. Stefan Cross KC noted that most authorities "fared better in handling equal pay concerns."

M42 Closure

A motorway carriageway will close overnight for safety upgrades. From Monday, the M42 northbound shuts from junction 2 (Hopwood Park) to junction 3a (Umberslade Interchange). Closures are from 20:00 to 06:00 BST till Friday, September 15. The advise is to plan ahead, especially if heading to Birmingham Airport.
