00:00 It's done and Israel Adesanya is no longer the champion of the world.
00:04 Sean Strickland just went out there and walked him down for five rounds.
00:09 Another than round two won pretty much the entirety of the fight.
00:14 49 to 46 on all three judges scorecards wasn't even close.
00:20 And I'll be honest, that was the correct decision.
00:22 Now you never know.
00:23 DC said it and he said that him and Dana discussed it.
00:26 You know, there's bad judges.
00:27 You never know in this day and age what the judges are going to see.
00:31 But the judges tonight, whoever they are, they got that one correct.
00:35 Right.
00:36 First round, Sean went out there and kind of outlanded him.
00:40 Kind of picking him apart, walking him down.
00:42 But then towards the end of the round, left hook, right hand, almost spins Izzy round.
00:47 Izzy drops.
00:48 Sean jumps on him.
00:49 I'm like, oh my God, this is it.
00:50 He's done.
00:51 First round knockout.
00:52 Can you believe this?
00:53 Fair play to Israel Adesanya managed to get back to his feet, covered up.
00:56 Sean just pummeling away left after left after left.
01:00 But he saw it to the end of the round.
01:01 OK, and that certainly woke Izzy up because he came out in round two.
01:05 And that was the only round that he won.
01:06 He had a bit of forward pressure.
01:08 He was throwing a lot of leg kicks.
01:09 He used the jabs.
01:10 The right hand got through on occasion.
01:12 And we saw some of the flashes of brilliance that Israel Adesanya is known for.
01:17 But throughout the entirety of the fight, it was the same old thing.
01:21 Izzy was backing up the whole time.
01:24 Sean was walking him down the whole time.
01:27 Now, not only did he land more shots, he was controlling the octagon.
01:31 He was controlling all of the real estate.
01:33 He was landing more damage.
01:34 Israel Adesanya's face was kind of bust up towards the end.
01:37 As I said, Strickland didn't have a mark on him and he was hardly breathing.
01:41 He looked like he could have gone another 10 rounds.
01:44 But here's the reality of the situation.
01:45 And I don't want to kick the former champ while he's down.
01:47 I really don't.
01:48 But I've got to analyze the fights the way that I see it.
01:51 He backed up the whole time.
01:52 He was backing up.
01:53 He was going side to side.
01:55 You don't win a fight by backing up the whole time.
01:57 Granted, some people are tremendous fighting on the back four.
02:00 But it doesn't look good.
02:02 And when it's super close and your opponent's walking you down
02:04 and he's landing more shots than you, you have to stand your ground.
02:08 And there was one point in round five where Izzy,
02:10 you can kind of see that maybe he knows he's behind and he's got to get a finish.
02:14 He did stand his ground.
02:15 He went forward a little bit and that stopped the forward movement of Sean Strickland.
02:20 And it got more interesting.
02:21 Izzy needed to do that right from the start.
02:24 Okay, you've got to hold your ground.
02:26 You can't be backing up the whole time.
02:28 And the reason he was backing up,
02:29 that's the reason that he got dropped in round one.
02:32 Because Izzy's got tremendous reflexes, okay?
02:35 He's so fast.
02:36 He's so sharp.
02:37 He's so accurate.
02:38 You know, he's fantastic.
02:39 He really is.
02:40 But when he moves around, if you throw a strike at him,
02:44 he uses his feet to evade and slip out the way.
02:46 Sometimes he uses his body length.
02:48 We saw against Robert Whisker,
02:50 he leans back and then he came in with that combination.
02:52 Two shots that dropped him at the end of round one,
02:54 the first time that he fought Whisker.
02:56 But this time, Sean was walking him down
02:58 and that was putting Izzy on the retreat.
03:00 And when you hit against the fence,
03:02 well, if you're a wrestler, it's perfect.
03:04 Because when you shoot in,
03:05 the guy standing against the fence can't sprawl, okay?
03:08 Because the fence is there.
03:09 And if you don't get the takedown clean,
03:10 you can drive him in against the fence.
03:12 You can get your hands together.
03:13 You can pick him up.
03:14 Well, it's the same thing if you're a striker.
03:16 Because if you're fighting a guy that's backing off the whole time,
03:19 if you back him up against the fence,
03:20 they've got nowhere to run, nowhere to hide.
03:22 And granted, you can use lateral movement and go side to side.
03:26 But on this occasion,
03:27 he didn't have the wherewithal to do it.
03:28 He didn't see it.
03:29 And it was a beautiful left hook, right hand, as I say.
03:31 But Izzy couldn't move back.
03:34 That's because he was constantly moving back.
03:36 And when you're moving back enough,
03:37 eventually you're going to hit the fence.
03:39 So I'll be honest,
03:41 Sean Strickland won the entirety of that fight.
03:44 Even round two for Izzy was very, very close.
03:47 But that was the only round that he got.
03:49 49-46.
03:50 Listen, Sean's a tricky customer.
03:53 OK?
03:54 He had a great fight there tonight.
03:56 But when I say tricky,
03:56 I'm talking about when I used to train with him.
03:58 He's got a weird offbeat rhythm.
04:01 OK?
04:01 And it's very hard to read, very hard to pick up on.
04:04 And Izzy definitely struggled with that.
04:06 Couldn't get anything going.
04:08 Sean did a really good job of blocking the leg kicks.
04:10 Defensively, very, very sound as well.
04:12 As I said, the man didn't have a scratch on him.
04:14 OK?
04:15 And he looked like he could have gone straight into another fight
04:17 with Drickus Du Plessis or whoever it may be.
04:19 Right?
04:20 Israel Adesanya jumped out of the Oxconn,
04:22 didn't stick around, didn't get on the microphone.
04:24 It was a disappointing event.
04:26 It really was for Israel Adesanya.
04:28 And I'll choose my words carefully,
04:29 but he never really showed up.
04:31 You know, the man's a superstar
04:32 and he might be the victim of the Drake curse once again,
04:34 as we know, Drake the rapper.
04:36 Anytimes he bets on someone,
04:38 a lot of the time they lose the fight.
04:39 Drake put $500,000 on Israel Adesanya to win the fight.
04:43 So the Drake curse strikes again.
04:44 But nevermind that stuff.
04:46 Is he never showed up?
04:47 OK?
04:47 He was too sure of his ability to counter strike.
04:52 He was too sure that his speed and the power that he possessed,
04:57 he would be able to back up and then boom,
04:59 catch Strickland as he's coming in.
05:00 Well, that wasn't the case.
05:02 And when that isn't working,
05:03 you need to go to plan B or even plan C sometimes.
05:06 Sean Strickland walked him down.
05:07 He was the better man from start to finish.
05:09 And in round five,
05:10 we got to see a little bit of the Sean Strickland
05:12 that we saw against Jack Marshman
05:14 and the crazy man that he is started shouting at him,
05:16 started walking him down,
05:17 swinging wildly because at that point,
05:20 Sean knows, listen, I'm in control.
05:21 I'm the man.
05:22 I'm about to be champ.
05:24 And he lost his mind.
05:25 Hey, listen, congratulations to Sean Strickland.
05:27 I'll be honest, I was completely wrong.
05:29 I didn't think he was going to get it done.
05:31 Maybe I had too much stock in Israel Adesanya,
05:35 but that was a bad one for Izzy.
05:37 That was a really bad one.
05:38 And then after this, you think what's next for Sean?
05:40 Is it going to be an immediate rematch for Israel Adesanya?
05:45 Well, I don't think so.
05:46 I don't think so.
05:47 The reality is for Izzy, when you look at the situation,
05:49 he's lost two out of the last three now,
05:51 obviously to Pereira.
05:52 Then he beat Pereira and now he loses to Izzy.
05:55 Now, the schedule that Izzy's been on has been crazy.
05:58 Not taking away from Sean,
05:59 and I'm not making excuses for Izzy either,
06:01 but we do have to look at that, right?
06:03 I think he's fought every three or four months,
06:05 ever since he was the champion,
06:06 he's had a tremendous schedule.
06:07 He's been an absolute workhorse for the UFC.
06:10 But I don't think he gets an automatic rematch here.
06:13 Certainly when you've lost two out of your last three,
06:15 it is the Sean Strickland era.
06:17 And as DC has said on the microphone, get ready.
06:20 This man's got to get obnoxious because he is.
06:22 But you know what?
06:23 Here's a man that deserves it.
06:24 Sean Strickland's a man that's done it the old fashioned way,
06:27 through hard work, blood, sweat, determination.
06:29 He had it very hard growing up.
06:31 His father, by all accounts, was a piece of shit,
06:33 was very violent.
06:34 He saw his father threatening to kill his mother.
06:37 That's what he told me when he came on my podcast.
06:39 So Sean's seen a lot of shit.
06:41 Obviously he was involved in that motorcycle accident as well.
06:43 Thought that was going to be the end of his career.
06:46 But he fought back and he moved up a weight division,
06:48 went on a hell of a win streak, lost to Pereira,
06:50 lost to Razor, close split decision to Jared Kananir.
06:54 And now here he is after a two fight win streak,
06:56 gets a shot at the belt and becomes champion
06:59 of the God damn world.
07:01 And you got to respect that.
07:03 You have to respect that.
07:04 So the question is, what is next?
07:07 Now, granted, Jared Kananir was there as the backup fighter
07:10 and he does have a win over Sean Strickland.
07:13 But the number one contender right now is Drickus Duplessis.
07:16 And I got to be honest,
07:17 if Drickus Duplessis was there tonight,
07:19 if he took that fight against Izzy,
07:20 he would have beaten that version of Izzy as well.
07:23 Not taking away from Sean, not kicking Izzy while he's down.
07:25 I'm just saying that wasn't a good showing from Izzy tonight.
07:28 Call it what you will, call it getting a little bit old,
07:30 maybe start to go on the decline, call it the work schedule
07:33 was too much, too many fights, too many training camps,
07:36 too much pressure.
07:37 You could slice it a million ways, but it doesn't matter.
07:41 Sean's the man, Sean's the champ, Sean's in charge.
07:44 And Sean ain't no bitch, okay?
07:46 He will take on all comments.
07:47 So there's Drickus Duplessis there.
07:49 Robert Whittaker is going to be licking his chops as well.
07:52 He will give some problems to Sean Strickland,
07:53 but the reality is it's going to be fun
07:55 because Sean knows how to hyper fight
07:57 and he doesn't pull any punches.
07:58 And I just want to say congratulations, Sean.
08:00 Knowing you for a long time,
08:01 you used to train with you back in the day.
08:02 We've done this quite a bit over the years,
08:04 but that commands my respect.
08:06 So well done, there's the champ.
08:08 So before that co-main event,
08:10 tied to Ivarsa versus Alexander Volkov,
08:13 man, if you're a tied to Ivarsa fan,
08:15 that was a rough one to watch.
08:16 Volkov just had his number, was picking him apart,
08:19 the jabs, the kicks, you name it, you name it.
08:22 I mean, two of us went out there very, very aggressive
08:27 at the start, throwing extremely hard low kicks.
08:29 And if they'd have found their mark,
08:31 which they did on many, many occasions,
08:33 but if they'd done the job that they were intended to do,
08:35 you might've stopped that one early
08:37 'cause he was loading up on those kicks,
08:38 but a lot of them were getting blocked.
08:40 But then Volkov just started finding the range,
08:42 the straight shots, the uppercuts.
08:43 He was nasty, followed him down to the ground in round three,
08:46 got on top of him, mounted him.
08:48 I thought to Ivarsa looked improved on the ground,
08:51 managed to get an under hook, forced back to his feet.
08:53 He defensively was quite sound for a little while,
08:56 but eventually Volkov got on top, got the Ezekiel choke,
08:59 which is basically a rear naked choke
09:01 from a different position,
09:03 but you drive your fist into the neck.
09:04 So well done to Alexander Volkov.
09:06 Manel Kopp versus Felipe Dos Santos.
09:08 What a tremendous fight that was.
09:09 Oh my God, Felipe Dos Santos.
09:11 I look forward to what he does in the UFC
09:13 because Manel Kopp's one of the best flyweights in the world.
09:16 He pushed him to the absolute limit,
09:18 but Manel Kopp had some tremendous moments.
09:20 The left hand was beautiful.
09:21 The boxing was beautiful.
09:22 Some of the reads, the all out violence
09:25 from start to finish from both men was tremendous.
09:30 Manel Kopp kind of fucking blew it on the microphone
09:32 a little bit though, didn't he?
09:33 Said something dumb there,
09:34 as did someone else earlier on in the night.
09:36 That was, who was that?
09:37 Who was that?
09:38 It was Charlie Radke.
09:39 Yeah, he did the same thing.
09:41 Justin Taffer knocked out Austin Lane, super quick.
09:44 One round, round one, one minute 22.
09:47 Beautiful right hand, sat him down.
09:49 That was that.
09:50 Tyson Pedro again with Anton Turkel, the pleasure man.
09:54 The only person that was getting pleased
09:55 or pleasured tonight was Tyson Pedro.
09:59 So there it is, UFC Sydney in the books and new.
10:02 Sean Strickland's the man.
10:03 Who's he going to be up against next?
10:05 What do you think?
10:06 Do you think Izzy deserves another rematch?
10:08 The only reason I say he doesn't
10:11 is because A, he probably doesn't want that,
10:13 but he's lost two out of his last three now.
10:15 If it was the first time that he'd lost, then granted,
10:17 but when you lose two out of your last three,
10:19 it's kind of hard to make that case.
10:21 And of course with Pereira,
10:23 he did have that long, long history with him as well
10:26 from the kickboxing world, so it kind of made sense.
10:28 But I think Drickus DiPlessi,
10:30 I think even Robert Whittaker maybe,
10:32 Jared Kananier has also got a great case.
10:34 There's a lot of people
10:35 and it does mix up the middleweight division tremendously.
10:39 And how long do you think it will be
10:40 before we see the return of Israel Adesanya?
10:42 Because make no mistake, he's a proud man.
10:44 He's a rich man.
10:45 He's a wealthy man,
10:46 but he's still a young man in his prime.
10:48 And I feel that he's going to want to come back
10:50 and get revenge for that.
10:51 But what do you think?
10:52 One, two wins and he gets a shot.
10:54 How do you think that scenario plays out?
10:55 But still, the night belongs to Sean Strickland
10:58 and I never thought I'd be saying that.
10:59 I advised you all, put your money on Israel Adesanya.
11:02 Well, I was wrong.
11:03 And if you lost bets because of me, I apologize.
11:05 But still, that is why we love the mixed martial arts.
11:08 It's the best sport on God damn planet Earth.
11:11 And I can't wait for next weekend.
11:12 Valentina Shevchenko taking on Alexa Grasso
11:15 trying to get her belt back.
11:16 But there it is.
11:17 Thanks for watching.
