Labour deputy leader Angela Rayner pledges better things for Blackpool as she rolls in on battle bus
Transcript
00:00 with Angela Rayner in Blackpool. Angela, what's the battle bus all about?
00:03 Well the battle bus is about showing that Labour's here and we're going to change the country for the
00:08 better. Everybody feels like it's been managed to decline, it's broken Britain at the moment,
00:12 nothing is working and places like Blackpool, we just want that opportunity and we've got a
00:18 government that's holding us back. They promised so much and yet they've not delivered. We've got
00:23 the challenge of the housing crisis. People's mortgages, rents and their bills are going up
00:28 and people wanting to get skilled jobs. The next Labour government will build the houses we need
00:33 here, will make sure that those skilled jobs are here and will make sure that levelling up really
00:38 does mean that places like here, which is where I used to come every year as a young kid and it's a
00:44 stable part of the North West diet for me, they get the deservement that they need and that their
00:50 kids get the opportunities of the future. Blackpool with its issues, what do you know about
00:55 the Blackpool and its issues? How would they benefit from a Labour government in particular?
00:59 Well look, we're here on the promenade and we can see the regeneration that's gone there and it's
01:04 great but you take a walk down the streets 10 minutes up the road and you can see that their
01:10 housing stock here needs improvement. You can see the anti-social behaviour and you can see that
01:16 crime and people who have got substance abuse, people who have got real mental health problems
01:23 not getting the support they need and the good jobs that people need, the skilled jobs that are
01:27 going to pay them a decent wage so they can get on the housing ladder, they can live in areas like
01:32 here where they grew up and that they can raise their family here. That's what Labour needs to
01:37 do here for places like Blackpool. It's an absolute little gem, it just needs the opportunity to shine.
01:43 Thanks Angela.
