Celebrity recital marks Regis School of Music anniversary

Leading clarinettist Emma Johnson will be in concert as The Regis School of Music in Bognor celebrates its 27th anniversary.

00:06 lovely to speak to a very dear old friend of many years' standing, Sasha Levtov of the

00:10 Regis School of Music, and we're talking about a very special occasion because you are celebrating

00:15 27 years. It's not a round number, but it's still a great number. 27 years of the Regis

00:21 School of Music. You must feel so proud of what you've achieved in those 27 years.

00:29 Indeed we are, and we're actually very pleasantly surprised how much the school has grown and

00:38 how many people are now using it. It's a wonderful achievement for all our community, I feel.

00:48 Yes. And now I think you've succeeded because you've always had such a friendly school,

00:53 haven't you? Such a welcoming school, such a beautiful school. Why do you think you've

00:57 done so well over the years? Most important, perhaps, you know, it is music, which is,

01:06 which we both, me and Nina, love and we're very fortunate to be able to pass it on. But

01:15 another very important reason is it's a support of a community. And because we have such a

01:23 superb facility, all the artists and all the musicians who come here love performing for

01:30 our audience. And of course, that's two-way traffic. Artists feel how welcoming and enjoying

01:38 our audience. And of course, the audience very much appreciate the artists which we're

01:44 able to bring here. And the central thing for you at the school has always been live

01:50 performance to put a musician in front of an audience. Very much so. It's an extremely

01:56 important part of music education. And of course, bringing here good musicians is a

02:05 great benefit to the local people. Is that the biggest test of a musician, to have an

02:11 audience in front of them, do you think? It's interesting. It's not so much a big audience,

02:18 but as many of our musicians mentioned, it's an understanding and responding audience.

02:25 And even when we have a not full house, maybe, but people react. And it's so encouraging.

02:34 But it's the fact of having an audience, isn't it?

02:38 Absolutely. And you're celebrating this anniversary with an important concert, aren't you? Tell

02:44 me who and when. We're very lucky to have, actually, for the

02:49 first time we have a clarinetist here. And of course, many times luckier that it is Emma

02:55 Johnson, one of the top musicians in this country and who made clarinet, you know, is

03:04 a solo concert instrument in its own right. We're so much looking forward to it.

03:12 And she'll be performing when? On the 23rd, starting the 23rd of September

03:19 at 7.30 at the Ritchie School of Music. And this performance is going to follow by a anniversary
