Tharman encouraged that voters didn't see Presidential Election as 'political'

After his landslide victory, President-elect Tharman Shanmugaratnam made several stops around the island to thank his supporters. He paid tribute to President Halimah Yacob and shared his thoughts on the vote share.

00:00 I'm looking forward to meeting President Halimah in the first instance and getting advice from her.

00:06 She has served Singapore remarkably well.

00:09 I admire her equanimity, her poise and the dignity with which she's held the presidency.

00:19 One of the first things I want to do is to sit down with her and get her thoughts and advice

00:24 coming from the last six years. I'm not going to rush the process

00:33 but I'm very serious about wanting to fulfil the mandate that's been given to me by the people.

00:40 Oh I will serve them to my foot to the fullest. I'll serve them to the fullest.

00:46 It's to be expected in any election. Like I say, I did not expect such a high degree of endorsement.

01:00 would normally not vote in favour of the ruling party, who decided that this was not a political

01:10 election, this was not a general election and they decided to vote for me.
