Will the Feds Legalize Cannabis?
The US Department of Health and Human Services has called on the Drug Enforcement Agency to loosen federal rules on cannabis. Cannabis is currently listed as a Schedule 1 drug under the Controlled Substances Act, meaning it has no medical use and a high chance of abuse. The change would make it a Schedule 3 drug, aligning it with drugs with a low potential for dependency and abuse. President Biden asked his administration last year to review whether cannabis should be classified as a less serious drug. HHS conducted a scientific review and submitted the proposal to the DEA this week.
