00:20 tied the knot after seven years of dating.

00:23 It's pretty exciting.

00:24 The pair announced their engagement back in June.

00:27 Derek proposed with a scene out of a fairy tale.

00:30 Hundreds of candles and flowers, seriously dreamy stuff.

00:35 Basically, I just said,

00:37 I want hundreds and hundreds of candles,

00:40 flowers everywhere.

00:41 I want it to be transformed.

00:42 Just the whole space transformed

00:43 into something really, really special.

00:45 After the big proposal, Derek told ET

00:47 it wasn't easy planning.

00:49 Pulling off a proposal to Hailey, it's surprising her.

00:52 For sure, it was way more difficult.

00:53 Yeah, yeah.

00:54 No, that was like some covert operations.

00:57 Hailey and Derek's journey to the aisle

00:58 all started back in 2015,

01:01 when the two met as pro dancers on Dancing with the Stars.

01:04 With a single kiss.

01:05 A few years after they began dating,

01:21 Derek told ET why he didn't feel rushed to get married.

01:25 Do I feel pressured getting married?

01:27 No, you know what?

01:28 I don't actually.

01:29 You know, I'm building a house right now.

01:31 I feel like I've been building it for 25 years now.

01:33 It's taken a long time.

01:35 So it's like, for me, I'm looking at things at stages.

01:39 And for me, that's gonna be the next stage

01:41 so it can get settled in that way,

01:43 physically grounded and physically settled.

01:45 And then who knows?

01:46 Who knows where life takes us?

01:49 Fast forward just a couple of years later

01:51 and the COVID pandemic hit.

01:53 And while many couples struggled,

01:55 Derek explained it actually made his relationship

01:57 with Hailey grow stronger.

01:59 It's a weird time, but it's funny,

02:01 before this all happened,

02:04 you know, Hailey and I were talking about our love languages

02:06 and hers was quality time.

02:07 So I joked around saying,

02:09 "Hey babe, well, ask and you shall receive."

02:11 We have the most insane amount of quality time ever,

02:15 but it's been really great.

02:16 We've bonded a lot.

02:17 It's been good.

02:20 And despite both Hailey and Derek

02:22 being seriously talented dancers and choreographers,

02:25 Derek was adamant with E.T.

02:27 His wedding day won't involve a formal five, six, seven, eight.

02:31 And I've been to some weddings where there are dancers

02:33 and then they do a dance, a choreographed dance.

02:36 And I'm like, "Okay, this is your day.

02:41 Relax."

02:43 I would feel weird like,

02:43 "Okay, now I'm gonna do a choreographed dance

02:46 at my wedding."

02:48 It would feel strange to me, personally.

02:50 And then there's a pressure and you're like,

02:51 "Oh, you're worrying."

02:52 I don't wanna worry on my wedding day, right?

02:54 Which echoes what he told us again in June.

02:57 People always say that.

02:58 They're always like,

02:59 "Your wedding dance is gonna be off the hook."

03:00 And I'm like, "Honestly,

03:02 I don't know if we wanna do a wedding dance."

03:05 Maybe we'll do a little something side to side,

03:06 but nothing elaborate because we dance every day.

03:09 You want the night off.

03:10 Yeah, we're like, "This is our night.

03:11 You all perform for us."

03:13 It's like, "Let's see what you have planned for us."

03:15 Right, right. I love it.

03:17 So whether it was a casual sway back and forth

03:20 or choreographed cha-cha-cha,

03:22 one thing's for sure, marriage looks good on the huffs.
