00:38 sent off, one player was sent off after Anthony Gordon gave Newcastle the lead, a deserved

00:44 lead at that, Virgil van Dijk then brought down Alexander-Arnold right on the edge of

00:47 the box, last man, showing a straight red card and Newcastle 1-0 up at St James' Park,

00:54 looked like it was going to unfold as a reasonable afternoon for Eddie Howe's side but Liverpool

01:01 with their nous, with their experience, with their pace in the transition and the changes

01:05 they made ultimately came from behind and won the game. I think the long out remained

01:11 1-0 to Newcastle, probably suited Liverpool to an extent, Newcastle weren't getting that

01:26 the post, skied a couple of chances as well, Anthony Gordon had chances to extend the lead

01:32 as well, he was really impressive and probably the one thing Eddie Howe will probably be

01:37 criticised for would be bringing Anthony Gordon off when he looked like one player capable

01:42 of extending Newcastle's lead, took him off, put Harvey Barnes on, again a good player,

01:47 has an eye for goal but after that, after the changes, Callum Wilson coming on, Sandro

01:52 Tonali came off, Sean Longstaff came on and Newcastle's momentum just sort of faded after

01:58 that and Liverpool made some key changes, Diogo Jota and Harvey Elliott came on but

02:06 the key one who grabbed the headlines, Darwin Nunes came on, scores with about nine minutes

02:13 to normal time remaining and you think 1-1, poor day for Newcastle against ten men playing

02:19 for the majority of the game and Newcastle still push to retake the lead but then Liverpool,

02:26 93rd minute, Nunes again down that right hand channel, blasted in 2-1 and it's a real sucker

02:35 punch defeat for Newcastle, first time they've lost after taking the lead at St James' Park

02:41 under Eddie Howe so yeah, a real unfamiliar feeling and Jürgen Klopp said after the game,

02:47 thousand games for him as a manager, he hasn't had a win quite like this in terms of being

02:52 a man down, coming from behind, obviously an intense atmosphere against an opponent

02:59 like Newcastle but yeah, you felt like the longer Newcastle weren't getting that all

03:06 important second goal, Liverpool's tails went up and by about that 70 minute mark when Howe

03:12 did make the changes, Liverpool had a bit of momentum behind them, they were forcing

03:18 set pieces, corners and from then on, we got the goal and then snatched it with another

03:26 and yeah, a draw would have been a poor result for Newcastle in the circumstances, a defeat

03:31 it just feels like a disaster almost, it's important to remember obviously we're only

03:36 three games in and all the good work Eddie Howe has done for the club and it's important

03:41 not to overreact but this feels like an off day for Eddie Howe as a manager in terms of

03:47 the changes he made just didn't work and he said in hindsight, yeah he would have done

03:51 things differently but it's easy to say that in hindsight, he was ultimately bringing on

03:56 good players in Harvey Barnes, in Callum Wilson, in Sean Longstaff who he thought would help

04:02 his side get a foothold in the game so yeah, it's a real tough one, an unfamiliar feeling

04:09 for Newcastle and Eddie Howe will probably be reflecting on that long and hard and we're

04:14 getting to the stage now, it's back to back defeats, that Man City-Liverpool 1-2 punch

04:20 gets Newcastle again, same, the only back to back defeats they had last season, also

04:25 Liverpool followed by Man City and then the time before that as well so Liverpool just

04:31 seem to have Newcastle's number, the only team Eddie Howe hasn't taken points from as

04:35 Newcastle manager, has five defeats in a row and two defeats in three games already this

04:40 season and it took Newcastle until they played Liverpool here back in February to go to two

04:48 Premier League defeats last season so yeah, it's going to be a tougher season ultimately

04:55 and then when you're throwing Champions League, things like that, it's just the reality but

05:00 yeah it's a tough day at the office for Newcastle and that defeat in the circumstances, playing

05:07 against ten men, having chances to extend the lead, failing to take it, just feels like

05:14 a low, low moment and Eddie Howe said yeah, he doesn't really assess or rank his lowest

05:19 moments as Newcastle manager but that was certainly up there and I think the 52,000

05:26 in the ground today barring the travelling Liverpool fans who are obviously in fine voice

05:30 come the end, is probably one of the lowest moments they've had here in recent years,

05:34 anyway certainly the past two seasons where it's been largely very positive so yeah, poor

05:42 day and now you're going to Brighton, back to back defeats, long trip down, tough opponent,

05:49 getting to the point where just to stop things going too sour too quickly, you need a result

05:55 down there really, otherwise that Brentford game back here starts to become a bit of a

06:01 tense affair so early on into the season but still very early stages, still a lot to look

06:06 forward to and Newcastle for all they capitulated is probably slightly strong but yeah, they

06:14 threw the game away in the second half, very positive in the first half, deserved the lead,

06:18 they were better 11 v 11 and Eddie Howe said the 10 men almost made things more difficult

06:26 for his side given Liverpool's strength and pace in the transition with the likes of Mo

06:31 Salah and then Darwin Nunes coming on and breaking out on the counter but it's just

06:38 the way it is and hopefully Newcastle can bounce back, again as I said a tough game

06:45 against Brighton at Brighton next weekend but before that we'll have the Champions League

06:51 draw to look forward to, again some tasty potential away trips in that and yeah I think

06:59 perspective is probably needed but given where Newcastle are they're looking forward to Champions

07:05 League football this year and they have played two of the best teams in the country back

07:09 to back, two teams that they've historically been beaten by even when things have been

07:14 going well so yeah, tough one to take but hopefully Eddie Howe and his side can move

07:21 on and learn from this and come back stronger next game.
