Do Sheffielders feel safe living in the city?

The Star's David Kessen asked members of the public if they feel safe in the Sheffield.

00:25 Although because of the news we hear online, sometimes you want to be very careful when you walk on the streets in the night.

00:43 Why do you say that?

00:44 It doesn't seem to be as safe as it used to be when we were growing up as kids.

00:48 And it seems to be getting worse as time goes on.

00:54 Could you tell me please if you think Sheffield is a safe place to live?

00:59 I'm not sure that I'm actually qualified to answer that.

01:04 I hear a lot of negative stories in the press, on the news, about Sheffield Town Centre.

01:11 And that actually it's not a safe place to go.

01:13 Not somewhere you'd want to go drinking, which is something I did in my 20s, early 30s.

01:19 So in answer to your question, I've got no evidence, but I think it's not as it used to be.

01:27 Yeah, sure.

01:28 In the day time, I don't come in the evening, so in the day time totally, yeah.

01:36 I think it is. I feel very safe in Sheffield.

01:39 But there is certain places where you don't like to go and pay Joel the walk.

01:51 As I've got older, I feel more unsafe at night time in Sheffield.

01:56 My son's had a few problems when he's come into town at night with people aggression or wanting to fight him.

02:03 So it's something I wouldn't come into at night time.
