MMDA, pinag-aaralan ang 'road sharing' sa EDSA bike lane
Transcript
00:00 The bike lane in Edsa has been a police zone for more than 3 years for cyclists, not motorists.
00:08 This is the last clarification of the MMDA to the public. According to MMDA Acting Chairman, Atty. Romando Artes,
00:14 for now, the last motorists will be stopped and warned within a week.
00:21 We have a common ground for one week. We will just be there to warn and inform the people
00:31 because they are used to enter the bike lane even though it is not allowed.
00:39 According to Artes, more than 600 bicycles are being parked every day in Edsa Northbound and 500 in Southbound.
00:47 This July, they are expected to pass 165,000 motorcycles every day.
00:53 They are also studying if it is possible to share the bike lane with motorists
00:59 because according to their data, it is underutilized or not properly used.
01:04 They will submit their recommendations to the Transportation Department.
01:09 Artes also gave the importance of No Contact Apprehension Policy or NCAP to the roads
01:15 because the enforcers are not enough to guard the roads.
01:18 That is why we need to return the NCAP because it is what helps us to discipline our fellow citizens
01:30 because even though they do not see the enforcers on the ground,
01:34 if they know that they can be caught through CCTV cameras, they will follow.
01:40 Artes insisted that if NCAP is not returned, they need to add 7,000 enforcers
01:46 to equal the number of CCTV cameras on the roads.
01:49 But if it is returned, 2,500 enforcers will be enough.
01:54 According to the IACT, their operation continues to catch motorists who are crossing the bike lane.
02:00 They are confiscating the licenses because of the LTO itself, the ticket they are using.
02:05 Meanwhile, MMDA will help the stakeholders and group of bicycle and motorcycle riders
02:11 on August 29 for the preliminary studies on the shared lane.
02:14 Joshua Garcia for the Bayan.
