France issues extremely rare 'red alert' for 4 regions as country sizzles in scorching heatwaves
  • 8 months ago
France has issued a rare and an extreme heat warning for four regional departments as temperatures scorch the country once again. The "red alerts," which allow local authorities to take measures to protect people from the heat, are in place in the southern regions of Rhone, Drome, Ardeche and Haute-Loire. This is the the 6th time Meteo France has triggered the red alert – part of the government's scheme to protect the population during periods of extreme weather – and the first this year. South and south-eastern France are the regions most affected by extreme temperatures, while the north and north-west have temperatures considered normal for this time of year.
