00:00 Well, make no bones about it.
00:02 Hillary has had major impacts on
00:03 Southern California and a large part
00:05 of the desert southwest already.
00:07 You can see the storm reports in the
00:09 last 48 hours overtaking the map here.
00:12 The green bubbles representing some
00:13 flooding and flash flooding reports,
00:15 and then the purple bubbles
00:16 representing damaging gusty winds.
00:18 Now those have been the two big
00:20 concerns that we've had and the
00:22 two big impacts that we've seen.
00:24 We'll start with the winds gusts
00:26 getting all the way up and speeds
00:28 getting all the way up into the 50s,
00:30 60s, 70s and even 80s nearing 90
00:32 miles per hour in Laguna Hanson in Mexico.
00:35 Now we're keeping a close
00:36 eye on the winds even still,
00:38 but again, the rain has been,
00:40 I would say our biggest concern
00:42 through the past week as we've
00:44 tracked this storm, it's been both
00:46 impacts but flooding has been the
00:47 blockbuster here in all the worst
00:49 ways across Southern California and
00:51 even stretching into Southern Nevada.
00:53 You can see there are areas that
00:55 have had more than 10 inches of
00:57 rain and you're talking about a.
00:59 Desert in the summer 10 inches
01:02 is big for the entire year,
01:04 let alone in one flooding event.
01:06 That's why the flooding has been such
01:08 a concern and to put into perspective
01:11 just how little rain it takes to
01:13 flood in areas of the Southwest.
01:15 Will take a look at Las Vegas.
01:17 We set a rainfall record yesterday
01:19 at just about 1/3 of an inch of
01:22 rain and we have had plenty of
01:24 flash flood warnings unfortunately
01:26 around Clark County, Nevada.
01:27 Again, that third of an inch of rain
01:29 was enough to not only set a record,
01:32 but blow out the old record,
01:34 which was 6 hundredths of an inch.
01:36 It's a dry part of the year in
01:38 a dry part of the country,
01:40 so any rain is a big deal,
01:42 but big rain is a huge deal.
01:44 We are still looking at big rain for
01:46 a large portion of the Western states
01:49 here looking all the way from Southern
01:51 California to Nevada back up into Idaho.
01:53 Boise is currently under flood
01:55 warning in Sioux Falls.
01:56 Elko all the way down to Las Vegas
01:58 and even San Diego.
01:59 We are looking at some flood warnings
02:01 here as we move through your day,
02:03 so please make sure if you live in
02:05 or are visiting any of these cities
02:07 that you're heating those watches
02:08 and warnings and folks.
02:09 I can't say this enough.
02:10 Never drive over a flooded roadway,
02:12 which we have unfortunately seen plenty of.
02:14 You don't know the integrity of
02:15 the road underneath the water,
02:16 and you don't want to mess with your safety.
02:19 That's just a silly idea.
02:20 Alright folks,
02:20 let's take a look at satellite and radar
02:22 and you'll notice this big swirl
02:24 of rain coming down across the coast.
02:26 Well, this is the storm itself pushing
02:27 back up the West Coast here,
02:29 driving more rain across the West.
02:31 And again,
02:32 it's not just California,
02:33 but stretching all the way up through
02:35 Nevada and even in through central
02:37 and central Idaho and into Western Montana.
02:39 We still have some risks as a result of.
02:42 Hillary, there is a literal some risk
02:44 here to lives and property in cities
02:47 like Elko Reno and Boise as we move
02:49 through today and tomorrow in terms
02:51 of damaging flooding, damaging,
02:52 gusty winds and power outages as well.
02:54 Looking at more of that risk here,
02:56 a moderate level risk in cities
02:58 like Las Vegas.
02:59 Make sure you're staying weather aware,
03:01 but I'd love to give a little
03:03 good news to end this forecast.
03:05 Cities like Palm Springs,
03:06 which have been hit so very hard,
03:08 will get a break after the storm is gone.
03:11 Really looking Tuesday through
03:12 the end of the week,
03:14 we're just about back to normal here
03:16 with temperatures rising back to the
03:18 triple digits and more sunshine in
03:20 your Accuweather exclusive forecast
03:22 for Palm Springs.
