A quieter night, then sunny spells and a few showers on Sunday, driest towards the southeast  – This is the Met Office UK Weather forecast for the evening of 19/08/23. Bringing you today’s weather forecast is Greg Dewhurst.

00:00 Hello there, welcome to your latest Met Office National Forecast.

00:04 Over the last 12 to 24 hours, Storm Betty has brought some heavy thundery rain and strong

00:09 winds to parts of the UK. The remnant still hangs around to the north-west as we finish

00:14 the weekend and into the beginning of next week. In fact, rain might move back into western

00:19 parts of the UK by Monday. But high pressure building in from the south means plenty of

00:24 dry weather and sunny spells, particularly across southern parts of England and Wales.

00:30 For the rest of the Saturday, it's a fine end to the day, still rather windy across

00:33 the north-west, but the winds do continue to ease compared to earlier in the day. Elsewhere

00:38 overnight, generally dry, plenty of clear spells, just one or two showers across western

00:42 areas. With winds falling light, we could see one or two shallow mist and fog patches

00:46 across central and eastern areas of England, but generally temperatures across the board

00:51 holding up 15 or 16 Celsius to take us into Sunday morning. So, it means a bright start,

00:58 plenty of sunny spells, particularly across central and eastern areas. A few showers already

01:02 across the west where the cloud is thickest. And then through the day, for the vast majority

01:06 of us, it will be a bright day, plenty of sunny spells. A scattering of showers developing,

01:12 one or two of them on the heavy side, but most places will stay dry. Perhaps across

01:16 parts of Northern Ireland, central and northern parts of Scotland seeing the most frequent

01:20 showers. But even here, plenty of dry weather, still breezy around the coast, particularly

01:24 across the north and the west, but winds much lighter compared to Saturday. And in terms

01:30 of temperatures, again, getting into the low 20s for the vast majority, around 25 towards

01:35 the south-east and the best of that sunshine. Into the evening time on Sunday, any showers

01:41 across England and Wales fade. However, across parts of Northern Ireland into Scotland, the

01:46 showers just pick up here. We could see some heavy showers developing into the early hours,

01:51 in between some clear spells. Again, a few shallow mist and fog patches forming across

01:55 central and eastern parts of England under those clear skies and still a little breezy

02:00 around the coasts. Temperatures once more, towns and cities, 14 to 16 Celsius, a little

02:06 lower in the countryside, but for all remaining in double figures. Now, this area of low pressure

02:11 just starts to move back in again as we head through Monday, bringing some more persistent

02:16 rain to parts of Northern Ireland, western Scotland, which could turn heavy later on

02:20 in the day. But for the vast majority, it's another bright day on Monday, plenty of sunny

02:25 spells, a scattering of showers, again, one or two of them on the heavy side, but lots

02:29 of places staying dry, particularly towards the far south and east of England. And here,

02:34 we'll see temperatures rising to around 24, 25 Celsius, getting into the low 20s in the

02:39 best of the sunshine further north and west as well. Over the course of the week ahead,

02:45 well, it's a mixed picture. We'll continue to see some showers across northern and western

02:49 parts of the UK in particular, plenty of warm, sunny spells, but there are signs it does

02:54 start to turn a little cooler by the end of the week. See you again soon.
