Acura's Most Powerful SUV, 325 Mile Range, $60k Starting Price, New Acura ZDX / ZDX Type S 2024

2024 Acura ZDX EV Revealed With 325 Mile Range, $60K Starting Price.
And with the 500-horsepower Type S model at the top of the range, this is Acura's most powerful SUV ever.

Sharing a GM Ultium platform with the Chevrolet Blazer EV, the base ZDX A-Spec uses a 102.0 kilowatt-hour battery pack and comes in a single or dual-engine configuration. The base ZDX has 340 horsepower and an estimated range of 325 miles with the single-engine setup, which drops to 315 miles in the twin-engine setup.

The ZDX has a DC fast charge rate of 190 kilowatts, which means you can recover up to 131 miles in as little as 10 minutes. Acura promises comprehensive home charging solutions will be available through a new Acura Home Electrification website that connects ZDX owners with local installers.

Acura promises an "almost" 50/50 weight distribution for the ZDX platform as a whole, with Type S-specific performance upgrades from adjustable air suspension with performance-tuned adaptive dampers to 15.6-inch, six-piston Brembo brakes.

Visually, the new ZDX isn't a remake of the original removed fastback from 2010 - for better or for worse. Instead, it has a more traditional SUV shape with a glossy black roof, 20- or 22-inch wheels depending on equipment, and a front fascia inspired by the Acura Precision EV concept.

Acura's Diamond Pentagon grille highlights the front end with a 3D embossed diamond pattern and an illuminated surround, while merging both sides of the grille with stylish Jewel Eye headlights and signature LED daytime running lights below.

And buyers can choose from a range of beautiful paint jobs to coat the exterior of their ZDX. As the new Double Apex Blue Pearl from the Precision EV moves into production, the Type S model brings with it the signature Tiger Eye Pearl paint, also found on the TLX, MDX and Integra flagships.

In terms of sizing, the ZDX is 197.7 inches long and 77.0 inches wide, making it slightly smaller than the gas-powered MDX (198.4 inches long / 78.7 inches wide). But the battery platform gives it a significantly longer wheelbase; It's 121.8 inches here, compared to 113.8 inches on the MDX. And that extra-long platform means additional space in the cabin, which promises to be a nice place to sit.

Upgrade to Type S to unlock the new AcuraWatch 360+ hands-free driver assistance. Similar to the GM Super Cruise or Ford Blue Cruise, the AcuraWatch 360+ allows hands-free driving on compliant roads up to 400,000 miles and comes with another first: automatic parking assist.

The Acura ZDX will begin production next year, and buyers will be able to get in their cars by the end of 2024.
