The 2024 CX-90 three-row SUV is poised to take the company's largest SUV even further up the luxury mountain. The CX-90 debuts with a new turbocharged 3.3-liter inline-six engine producing 280 or 340 horsepower, as well as a plug-in hybrid powertrain option (reviewed separately). Mazda's premium aspirations are on full display here; Top-spec variants of the three-row, eight-seat model offer more luxury features than the brand's current SUV range. Its design is quite nice, and the CX-90's cabin design takes cues from the smaller CX-50 and MX-30 SUVs. The all-new architecture on which the CX-90 is built is also expected to spawn a two-row SUV called the CX-70, which will go on sale shortly after the CX-90.

The S model also comes well equipped with features like second-row captain's chairs, 12-speaker Bose stereo system, interior ambient lighting, 21-inch wheels, panoramic sunroof, hands-free power liftgate, and more.

The CX-90 is the first Mazda to use the new turbocharged 3.3-liter inline six-cylinder engine powered by a 48-volt hybrid system. Mazda says the powertrain is good for 280 horsepower on non-S trims and 340 horsepower on S trims. The inline six-cylinder engine is a hallmark of SUVs such as the BMW X5 and Land Rover Range Rover Sport, signaling Mazda's desire to push its brand even further into the premium end of the market. A plug-in hybrid model is also offered, using the same 323-hp setup used in the European-market CX-60 SUV. All models come with an eight-speed automatic transmission, and like the rest of Mazda's SUV lineup, the CX-90 comes with all-wheel drive standard.

The EPA rates the CX-90 at up to 24 mpg city and 28 mpg highway.

To accompany its luxurious exterior, Mazda has equipped the CX-90 with a stylish cabin design that accommodates up to eight passengers. Opt for captain's chairs in the second row, and the total number of seats drops to seven. The cloth dashboard upholstery on higher-end models looks striking, and the seats on these trims are also covered in soft Nappa leather. Base Select trims are less comfortable but no less opulent in style. While leather is standard starting with the Preferred trim level, the more luxurious and buttery-looking Nappa leather upholstery is reserved for the Premium Plus trims.

A 10.3- or larger 12.3-inch infotainment screen is built into the dash and is controlled via a click wheel on the CX-90's center console. Mazda's latest infotainment interface is easy to navigate and relatively intuitive. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are both standard, and we expect wireless connectivity on both. Lower trims of the CX-90 include a 7.0-inch digital instrument display and an eight-speaker stereo system. A larger 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster and a 12-speaker Bose premium stereo system are optional.
