Sunderland College students express their pride in coming top of the results day class

Staff and students share their results day joy.

00:00 Okay then Emily, how are you doing your results then?

00:02 I got three A*s in my subject.

00:05 What were the subjects?

00:06 English Literature, History and Psychology.

00:08 Well obviously you can't do any better than that, were you expecting to do that well?

00:11 No I wasn't, I needed three A's to go to university and I was really hoping I'd get that but this was a really good surprise to see that.

00:18 And how did you feel coming down this morning, were you nervous?

00:20 Really nervous, I wasn't really sure how I'd done but I think I did something.

00:26 And where are you going to university?

00:27 I'm going to University of York to study English Literature.

00:30 Okay then Victoria, how are you doing your results and what subject are you doing?

00:34 I did really well, I got triple distinction, starting BTEC Music Level 3.

00:39 Were you nervous coming down this morning?

00:41 Not particularly, I already had a good idea of what I was going to get.

00:45 And what's your plans now then with your results, what are you going to do?

00:48 I'm going to take a year off and then hopefully go down to London next year to study production.

00:55 Going out and celebrate today?

00:57 Yeah, with my mum and dad we're going to just have a little meal together.

01:01 Okay then Emily, what were you studying and how are you doing your results then?

01:06 So I was studying Sports Coaching and Development, it was a BTEC and I got triple distinction star.

01:11 And how do you feel about your results then?

01:13 I'm really happy, I was nervous but I'm happy.

01:17 And what's your plans now and what are you going to do with your results?

01:20 I'm going to go to Durham University and do primary education.

01:23 Are you going to go out and celebrate today?

01:25 Probably, probably do something.

01:27 Okay then Toni, how do you feel about this year's results, have you got any headline figures?

01:32 Overall we're really pleased with our results, students have worked exceptionally hard this year,

01:37 especially our BTEC students, we've seen some exceptional results overall for the students on those qualifications.

01:44 And in particular our T-Level students have done really well this year, especially across Health and Construction.

01:51 Now I know exam boards have been directed this year to bring grades more in line with pre-pandemic levels,

01:56 what's your thoughts on that?

01:59 We were always expecting some fluctuation around the grades and we were expecting that there would be changes

02:04 on some of the A-Levels or changes overall and we've prepared our students for that

02:08 and our staff have been supporting students in that as well.

02:11 The key thing now is for students, any students who didn't get the grades that they felt that they wanted,

02:16 is to have the support to go through clearing.
