State polls: EC expects voter turnout to exceed 85%

00:00 The Election Commission is making final preparation for Saturday's election in Selangor, Kedah, Penang,

00:06 Cungganu, Negeri Sembilan and Kelantan, as well as for the Kuala Cungganu Parliamentary by-election.

00:12 The EC said no untoward incidents had been reported on the Eve at all polling stations

00:19 in terms of ballot boxes, ballot papers and other equipment.

00:23 Some 3,190 polling stations with a total of 17,048 channels will be open in the six states,

00:31 while the Kuala Cungganu by-election will have 41 polling stations with 217 voting channels.

00:38 The EC said 9.67 million people are eligible to vote in the six-state elections,

00:44 while there will be 122,160 voters in Kuala Cungganu.

00:51 During his visit to the vote-telling centre in Dunkel on Friday,

00:54 EC Chairman Tan Sri Abdul Ghani Saleh said they expect the voter turnout to exceed 85%.

01:00 He said if that happened, it will exceed the turnout of 74.7%,

01:05 recorded in a general election last year.

01:08 The polling stations will be open from 8am to 6pm.
