00:00 Magsanok! 3 points!
00:02 Ronnie Magsanok is known as a former professional basketball player and broadcaster.
00:07 But did you know that he was one of the instrumental players in the 1986 UAAP title of the Fighting Maroons?
00:14 This is Kyla Cortez and let's go back to the story of Point Laureate's UP.
00:29 In UP, it's hard to make a living.
00:32 In UP, you're like a stand-alone.
00:34 So it was more of trying to excel and be the best student possible.
00:39 At first, I really couldn't do it.
00:42 But eventually, as time went on, I got tired of playing and studying.
00:47 I was able to adjust eventually.
00:49 I needed to play to study.
00:51 I remember, to get my tuition fee, I had to fall in line for a long, long time
00:56 because there were a lot of people in line at his office.
00:59 I was in line under the sun.
01:01 It was really hard because it was hard to study,
01:03 it was hard to get subjects,
01:06 it was hard to judge the teachers of the special exams,
01:09 and it was hard to win.
01:11 So, what was our next win in San Bernardino,
01:14 when I was in grade school and high school,
01:16 that was the most difficult thing in UP at that time.
01:19 The schools who built dynasties then were
01:22 FDU, of course USD, and then UE.
01:27 So those were the powerhouse teams back then.
01:30 We were boys among men initially.
01:32 It took a while for us to be competitive,
01:36 but the difference-maker, no doubt, was Ben.
01:39 When good things come to those who wait,
01:41 one, two, nothing is easy in life,
01:44 and three, if you really want to survive, you really need to work hard.
01:48 I'm still proud of the fact that I survived the UP jungle,
01:52 which I always liked to look at back then.
01:56 So, even now, we're in a good school,
01:58 best situation to get one step closer to your dreams.
02:02 So it's a matter of believing in yourself,
02:05 and of course, working extremely hard.
02:07 The attitude and connection,
02:09 the players expect from the Spikers.
02:12 Just put one foot forward, take the next step,
02:15 because not everything is bad in life.
02:18 When I look back years after,
02:20 I said, "I'm thankful that I went there,"
02:22 because it trained me to be a tougher,
02:25 and hopefully a better person.
02:27 I hope you enjoyed Coach Ronnie's UP story.
