Rajasthan Royals booked a spot in the Indian Premier League playoffs qualifier after edging Chennai Super Kings by five wickets in Mumbai on Friday. Ravichandran Ashwin, promoted up the batting order, made an unbeaten 40 off 23 balls for Rajasthan Royals to win with two balls left. The Royals made 151-5 in reply to Chennai’s 150-6. Ashwin, who smashed three sixes and two fours, scored the bulk of the runs in an unbroken 39-run sixth-wicket stand with Riyan Parag which took the game away from Chennai Super Kings. 01:16 You had previously stated that the franchisee had told you
01:19 that you would be given more responsibility with the bat.
01:21 So did that give you any clarity to perform with the bat better?
01:25 Obviously, I think batting is one part of the sport which
01:29 is massively driven by repetitions.
01:32 And many times, being a bowler, primarily a bowler,
01:36 I get to bowl a lot in the nets.
01:37 And the batsmen occupy most of the time and space
01:39 inside the nets.
01:40 And you don't often--
01:41 like when you're batting number eight or number nine,
01:44 you will probably get batting like once in three, four games
01:47 if your batting lineup is doing well.
01:49 But the fact that they did tell me that you'll be opening
01:52 and you have to open the practice games,
01:53 you might be used in power play, and the amount
01:55 of repetitions I was given, and the proper times
01:57 and the simulations, all these things really help.
02:00 And obviously, I've worked on a lot of--
02:03 I've been quite innovative in terms
02:04 of trying to adapt to new techniques.
02:08 And I'm very thankful for the people
02:10 that have put the work behind closed doors.
02:13 And hopefully, I can put on a few more good performances
02:16 like this.
02:17 Generally, I think, even though we are playing in Mumbai,
02:19 I think all three pitches have behaved very, very differently.
02:22 I mean, keeping Pune aside, all three pitches
02:24 have behaved very, very differently.
02:25 D.Y. Patil has a bit of steeper bounce.
02:27 And I think it's one of the more truer batting wickets going
02:29 around in the comp.
02:30 Yes, a little bit slower through the first half.
02:33 Wankhede has been very different to what usually Wankhede has
02:36 been.
02:36 CCI has been quite skiddy and flat.
02:38 So according to that, I mean, usage of stands and also
02:42 matchups against which bowler, there's
02:44 been a concentrated effort on what areas I've been working on.
02:49 Usually, I tend to go back and across and try and slog
02:52 the ball down the leg side.
02:54 And then it's pretty easy to bowl.
02:56 So I've tried to open up the wider range of options
02:58 around for me.
03:00 And I'm extremely confident that I can clear the ropes
03:03 when required.
03:03 So that confidence is most important,
03:05 because I can understand the ebbs and flows of the game
03:07 pretty decently.
