Tesla has hired a new manufacturing executive, Michael Hildebrand, from Eli Lilly to lead the expansion of its Gigafactory Nevada. The Gigafactory was intended to produce 105 GWh of battery cells and 150 GWh of battery packs annually. Still, it's only about 30% complete due to a focus on optimizing existing production capacity. Tesla's planned expansion, which includes production of Tesla Semi trucks and 4680 battery cells, has been delayed for eight months since the announcement. Hildebrand's experience in the pharmaceutical industry, particularly in overseeing large manufacturing projects, suggests that Tesla is aiming to accelerate progress on the Gigafactory Nevada expansion, which is crucial for its Semi and 4680 cell programs.
