Anthony Albanese re-affirms commitment to Voice at Garma 2023

The Prime Minister has attended the annual Garma Festival at the Gulkula ceremonial site on Gove Peninsula, NT between August 4 - 7.

00:09 As it says so memorably, when we have power over our destiny,

00:17 They will walk in two worlds, and their culture

00:24 Think about those words, a gift to their country.

00:31 Even in expressing the most fundamental and elemental hope

00:39 the chance to flourish, the opportunity for a better life,

00:47 that spirit of generosity to others,

00:50 the offer of a gift to us all, the understanding

00:57 that both our worlds have so much to gain from listening

01:07 and the genius of the Uluru Statement from the Heart,

01:12 and all the elders and leaders and Aboriginal and Torres

01:15 Strait Islander people who poured their hopes

01:18 and aspirations and effort and goodwill into it,

01:22 is that it doesn't just articulate the noble goal

01:26 of a better future.

01:28 It offers Australia the practical means

01:32 and the path to achieve it.

01:39 and its call for an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander

01:44 voice in our constitution, which is what

01:47 the coming referendum is about, a vehicle

01:51 for real and practical progress, a committee

01:55 of Indigenous Australians chosen by Indigenous Australians

02:01 to work for Indigenous Australians

02:04 in every part of our nation, the regions and remote communities,

02:10 big cities, and the Torres Strait Islands,

02:13 giving parliament and government the advice

02:16 to drive better results in health, education, employment,

02:22 and housing.
