Hyundai and Kia Recall 2023-2024 Models Over Fire Risk

Hyundai and Kia are recalling nearly 92,000 vehicles in the U.S. due to a potential fire hazard caused by an electronic controller in the oil pump assembly. The affiliated Korean automakers have advised owners of the affected vehicles, including certain 2023 and 2024 Hyundai Palisades, Tucson, Sonata, Elantra, and Kona models, as well as 2023 Soul, Sportage, and some 2023 and 2024 Seltos models, to park their cars outside and away from structures until the necessary repairs are completed. The recall is prompted by a capacitor on a circuit board in the transmission oil pump assembly that may have been damaged during manufacturing, leading to a risk of short-circuit and fire. So far, there have been reports of melting components, but no fires or injuries for Kia vehicles, and four "thermal incidents" with no injuries for Hyundai vehicles. Dealers will inspect and replace the oil pump controller as needed, with notifications to owners scheduled for late September.
