Cannabis Megamerger Canceled

Chicago-based Cresco Labs and Columbia Care have decided to call off their planned $2 billion cannabis megamerger due to "evolving" market conditions. The companies cited falling stock prices, tightening credit, and flattening industry sales as reasons for the termination. The merger, announced in March 2022, would have created the second-largest cannabis retailer in the U.S. with projected annual sales of over $1.4 billion. However, stock prices for both companies have plummeted significantly since the deal's announcement. Additionally, the $185 million sale of cannabis facilities in Illinois, New York, and Massachusetts to rapper/producer Sean "Diddy" Combs, which was part of the merger's required antitrust divestitures, has also been scratched. Both companies expressed confidence in moving forward separately as standalone entities.
