00:02 We came to the decision to adopt our son's best friend
00:07 because over the years,
00:08 we've seen their relationship grow stronger.
00:11 We just knew that they were truly friends and brothers.
00:15 We first met Andrew whenever we decided
00:18 to be foster parents,
00:19 and they called us to foster one of the kids.
00:23 The first impression of what Andrew was, pretty rough.
00:27 He did not wanna take any love, any attention.
00:31 He just, he wanted to push us away.
00:33 Jack was the only child for, up until Andrew came.
00:38 So when Andrew did come,
00:40 he didn't immediately like gravitate to him.
00:43 Like kinda once things started to mellow out,
00:46 they was eating breakfast and playing the game,
00:49 and they just kinda kicked it off from there.
00:51 But before it wasn't a relationship there just yet.
00:56 Once they realized that the games and the breakfast
01:00 was their number one thing together,
01:02 they just took it from there.
01:04 Just as their relationship, my relationship with him,
01:07 and my husband's relationship with him got stronger,
01:09 we just, we knew that he would fit better with us
01:12 rather than another group of strangers.
01:15 He needed that structure and stability,
01:17 and it just felt right for us to go ahead and adopt
01:20 because we'd known him for so long.
01:22 We decided to have a will you party.
01:25 We were talking with his counselors and I asked her,
01:28 I was like, "Do you think he will want to be in our family?"
01:31 And she's like, "Yeah, I really do think
01:33 "he wanna be in your family."
01:34 But we didn't know if he would really want us
01:37 to be his family because we were a different race.
01:42 They would ask me in our meetings every week,
01:44 like, "When are you gonna ask him?"
01:46 And I'm like, "I don't know how to ask him, you know?
01:48 "Like, what do we say?"
01:49 And so she's like, "Just ask him, like,
01:52 "will you be a part of our family?"
01:53 And I'm like, "What if I had the community
01:56 "to help us ask him that question too?"
01:58 So through social media, I made a post
02:02 in like groups and on my personal page.
02:05 - So when he found out, when he seen all of our family there,
02:08 his friends, it brought tears to everybody
02:11 and it welcomed us with open arms.
02:14 Bringing him into our home has made him pretty much a man.
02:19 - Where Angie was before is not where he is now.
02:22 We just had to show him consistent love
02:26 and just being consistent with everything to show him.
02:29 'Cause he wasn't used to consistency, obviously.
02:31 He was used to being bounced around from house to house.
02:34 You wouldn't even think that anything was different
02:37 besides the color.
02:39 As my kids grow up together,
02:41 I want them to continue to be strong,
02:43 to look out for each other
02:45 and to always have each other's back.
02:48 - I just don't want them to lose that bond.
02:50 - They said when they turn 18,
02:51 they're gonna get the apartment together
02:52 and share an apartment.
02:54 So we'll see.
