Mhm. Well, Adventist Health Bakersfield is receiving a Nick view monitoring
00:06
system that will allow parents, family and friends to view newborns live 24
00:11
hours a day. The addition was made possible by a local family who donated
00:16
funds to create this new system in memory of their infant daughter that
00:19
died in the Nick you six months ago. In today's current kindness, 23 abc's
00:24
Brianna Polk sat down with the family and brings us more details about how
00:27
they're making a way for other families to be able to see their bundles of joy
00:31
any day, any time with limitations on how many people can visit their babies
00:36
in the Nick you Megan and Richard Spangle. The parents of Hattie Dell
00:40
started a fund called Hattie Dell's tiny fighters in memory of their
00:44
daughter, Hattie. The family tells me this would have meant so much to them
00:48
and that is why they want to give other families the opportunity of this
00:51
connection with their babies. If you have a story that ends like ours, um,
00:57
there are people there willing to talk. We are always willing to help or talk
01:02
to anybody who's been in our shoes. Um,
01:05
and just you don't have to be alone. It's a message that Megan Spangles
01:10
since to any parents that have gone through or going through the Nick you
01:14
journey with their child. Spangle tells me last year her and her husband were
01:19
in the Nick you for 22 days with her daughter as she was fighting for her
01:23
life. She was born at 24 weeks, so she was £1 three ounces. She was just
01:28
very, very tiny. Had to have help breathing. Um, and it was just really,
01:32
really hard on her little body. And when she lost her fight, we knew
01:37
immediately that we wanted to do something to help that sparked the idea
01:40
to create the Nick view system, which they hope will bring comfort to others.
01:45
Camera system that goes on each individual bed and family members,
01:49
loved ones can log in and see their baby in lifetime. Anytime, night or day,
01:53
they'll have an opportunity to grow and bond with that baby while they can't
01:59
be there in person. Hattie's father agrees. It's very important, especially
02:04
the family out of state and stuff like that. So
02:07
with that,
02:09
you know, deployment for military and
02:14
and just be able to go home and rest
02:16
and not have to worry all night. So that's very important. Also, Rebecca
02:23
Mouson is the Nick you manager and educator at Adventist Health Bakersfield
02:27
and says when parents have a baby, a Nick you stay is never really what they
02:32
plan on having. However, with the incorporation of this new system,
02:35
parents will be able to monitor the progress their baby is making milestones
02:40
when their baby doesn't need a breathing tube anymore. When their
02:43
baby starts breastfeeding or bottle feeding for the first time. So a lot of
02:48
hard days, but a lot of great days to the Spangle family contributed the lead
02:52
gift of $1000 to launch this new project and bring this supportive system into
02:57
current. But community support is also welcomed. We knew that we wanted
03:02
everything that we had left to go to the Nick you. So we coordinated with
03:06
them and kind of thought together on what the best thing we could kind of
03:09
sponsor would be in Hattie's memory and leaving a legacy for her. We came up
03:14
with the Nick view system. And if you like to make a donation to Hattie
03:17
Dale's tiny fighters, more details on how you can help can be found on our
03:21
website. Turn to 23 dot com in Bakersfield. I'm Brianna Polk 23 bc
