00:00 A transport consultant has questioned the need to relocate the Kota Kinabalu International Airport
00:05 when there are more pressing issues in Sabah that deserve attention.
00:08 Rosli Azad Khan says a new airport is not a priority for Sabah
00:14 and that the government should instead develop its railway network with new lines and new trains
00:18 that further support economic growth.
00:20 Rosli says there are other urgent issues in the state that require immediate attention
00:26 such as housing including for squatters and water villages, electricity and water supply,
00:30 rural roads and public transport.
00:32 Former Institute for Development Studies CEO Johan Arifin Samad agrees.
00:39 He says while the construction of an airport away from the city has its merits,
00:43 it is not the right time to build an airport as the state's economy is not in the best shape.
00:47 On Monday, Kazana Sabah Berhad Chairman announced that the feasibility study
00:53 on KKIA's relocation was done and would be presented to the Sabah Economic Planning Unit today.
