Public response to possible ban on disposable vapes next year

We asked the public what they thought about the council trying to ban disposable vapes by next year and this is what they had to say.

00:26 I think they probably should be dealt with the same as cigarettes so you can't smoke

00:30 inside you can only smoke outside you can only smoke them in designated areas.

00:35 I think they're grim. I think you don't know what's in them and that's what's weird about

00:42 them at least with cigarettes it tells you it's going to kill you.

00:46 So you think they should be banned then?

00:48 Yeah, no they're disgusting if you ask me. Also when you just chuck them on the floor

00:53 they're live batteries that are just on the floor they could explode or whatever you don't

00:56 know what's going to happen with them. They're not batteries that are dead just because the

00:59 vape's dead doesn't mean the battery is those batteries are all just like you might as well

01:03 just chuck actual batteries on the floor you know what I mean.

01:07 So as a shop owner would you say the sale of Vips in the past sort of year has risen?

01:14 Yeah it's definitely risen more people are doing it than they are smoking cigarettes.

01:19 Would you say it's more a youth problem or sort of more older people or just a mix of

01:26 both?

01:27 It's more young people I think there was a problem with people under 18 buying them but

01:32 that's up to the shopkeepers to say now and then.

01:34 And do you find there'd be a surge more at weekends for them or is it just on the daily?

01:39 No it's on the daily.

01:40 And how many would you reckon you would sell daily?

01:42 100, 150.

01:43 150 a day wow and how much are they priced at?

01:49 £5.99 or £2.10.

01:52 And what would your tech be on Vips do you smoke them yourself?

01:55 I don't smoke at all no.

01:56 So do you think that possibly they should be banned or?

01:59 I think they should be more regulated but they shouldn't be banned.
