Grocery Prices Cool as Inflation Persists

Grocery prices increased by 0.1% in June compared to the previous month, remaining unchanged from the month prior but higher than the 0.2% decrease seen in April. On a year-over-year basis, grocery prices rose by 4.7%, slower than the previous month. Egg prices have been consistently dropping, with a 7.3% decrease every month and a 7.9% decrease year-over-year. The cost of a dozen large grade-A eggs in June 2023 was $2.22, compared to $4.82 in January. This decline in egg prices contributed to the overall decrease of 0.1% in the meats, eggs, poultry, fish, and eggs category on a monthly basis and a 0.2% decrease year-over-year. However, certain items within this category, such as uncooked beef roasts and steaks, saw an increase of 1.6% last month.
