Magical moment tourists in canoe have close up encounter with elephant herd on riverbank

A group of tourists on a canoe boat tour had a once-in-a-lifetime close-up encounter with a herd of elephants.

The group were traveling down the Kinabatagan River in Borneo, Malaysia, when they spotted a herd of elephants taking a dip.

The shy elephants retreated into the mangroves at first.

But the guide mimicked the elephant's call and the group of jumbos re-emerge from the bush.

The person recording said: "My host and guide was born and raised there, so he knows everything about the wildlife in the area and is able to call some of the elephants.

"We slowly approached the riverbank while the elephants backed up.

"Our guide then makes some sounds and the elephants turn around and come towards us until they are literally just in front of our boat."

The video was filmed on November 21, 2022.
