Prime Minister Narendra Modi met the President of Egypt Abdel Fattah El-Sisi at the Presidential Palace in Cairo today. The Egyptian President conferred PM Modi with the ‘Order of the Nile’ award, Egypt’s highest state honour. This is the 13th such highest stae honour that various countries have conferred upon PM Modi. The Order of the Nile was established in 1915 by Sultan Hussein Kamel of Egypt for award to persons who had rendered useful service to the country. It was one of the Kingdom of Egypt's principal orders until the monarchy was abolished. After Egypt became a republic in 1953 the Order of the Nile was reconstituted to to serve as Egypt's highest state honor. The Order of the Nile is a pure gold collar comprising three square gold units on which there are Pharaonic symbols.
