Wrestlers Protest: Vinesh Phogat, Sakshee Malikkh, Bajrang Punia & Others Detained, Protest Site Cleared; Delhi Police Files Case

Delhi police have filed cases against Indian wrestlers protesting in the national capital. This comes after visuals of the police manhandling the Olympians and Commonwealth Games champions went viral on May 28. Wrestlers including Vinesh Phogat, Sakshi Malik, and Bajrang Punia, have been named in the matter. On May 28, the Indian wrestlers were detained as they were marching towards the new parliament building to protest. Visuals showed the wrestlers being pushed, pinned down onto the road and dragged into the buses. Several opposition leaders and athletes condemned the act. Rahul Gandhi said the voice of people is being crushed on the streets. Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren said, “It’s distressing…” Congress’ Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said, “This is wrong.” Javelin star Neeraj Chopra said, “There has to be a better way to deal with this.” Watch the video to know more.
