Death toll rises to five after collision in Northern Victoria

Victorian police have confirmed the death toll from a crash in the state's north has risen to five making it the worst in the state in over a decade. The crash at Strathmerton occurred yesterday afternoon after police pulled over a 29-year-old Mercedes driver for allegedly speeding. Police say a short time after leaving the scene the same driver crashed into a Nissan Navara spinning the vehicle into a fully loaded b-double tanker. All five people inside the Nissan were killed instantly. The driver is believed to be a local her four passengers are believed to be from overseas and were working on her farm. The 29-year-old driver of the Mercedes has since been charged with five counts of dangerous driving causing death. Victoria police describe the scene of the crash as horrific with disaster victim identification experts required to determine how many people were involved.
