From chips packets to cassettes, Pune-based startup ‘EcoKaari’ upcycles single-use plastic waste into sustainable handbags

On a mission to conserve the environment by recycling single-use plastic waste, an Indian start-up ‘EcoKaari’ based in Maharashtra’s Pune is making the best out of waste.

Since Sept 2022, the company look forward to upcycling every type of plastic waste starting from chips packets to audio and video cassettes. Eco means 'ecological' and Kaari stands for 'Kaarigar', which means artisans.

The waste collection organizations also contribute to waste materials required by the company to create products. The waste is upcycled, spun and woven using traditional methods like charkha and handloom.

With a mission to tackle the plastic waste menace, ‘EcoKaari’ has also enabled livelihood of women and youth by giving them employment.
