Dressing digitally' pins hope on blockchain to clean up fashion's carbon footprint | The Crypto Mile

  • last year
On The Crypto Mile this week, our host Brian McGleenon is joined by Louise Laing, founder of PhygitalTwin, an ecologically-minded fashion marketplace that turns digital designs into reality, using web3 innovations such as NFTs and virtual environments, such as the metaverse.

Laing discusses how the innovations of blockchain technology could transform the fashion industry and make it emit a fraction of the carbon emissions it is currently responsible for.

She claims the existing fashion system is broken, pointing to studies that show the industry is responsible for between 2% and 8% of global CO2 emissions, greater than all international flights and global shipping combined.

The founder states that web3 innovations can cut waste from overproduction by using blockchain-based solutions to streamline workflows and allowing customers the ability to try on clothing in virtual environments before committing to making a purchase.
