Glasgow headlines 16 March: Immigration protester has been cleared of charges
  • last year
A man who claimed to have refused to exit a car to prevent UK border agents from detaining two men for alleged immigration allegations in Pollockshields in May 2021, has now been cleared of all charges.

Officers claimed that 33-year-old Nicholas Sigsworth failed to engage with them while they tried to carry out the operation, but was found not guilty.

Next, following discussions, Glasgow City Council has announced it supports a ban on the sale of single-use vapes and is writing to the Scottish government, calling for new legislation.

A spokesperson says they are concerned about environmental and health impacts, while a national review by Zero Waste Scotland has been commissioned by ministers.

And in other news, this year’s Glasgow Film Festival has been hailed a success as admissions rose by 25 percent compared to 2022 figures.

Almost 34,000 people attended 295 screenings over the 12 days, which saw cinema bounce back to pre-pandemic levels.
