The musicians of The Bourbon Street Paraders, formed in late 1969, were heavily influenced by American rock-soul-jazz ensembles (Blood, Sweat & Tears, Chicago). Starting by imitating the British "Colosseum" and "Nucleus", they tried to develop and improve their own repertoire. A few years later, after numerous line-up changes, when the core of the group was formed, the guys recorded a demo tape and sent it to Metronome Records, hoping to sign a contract. Then they chose the ambitious name "Creative Rock", although their music was much more jazz than rock. Their debut album Gorilla, recorded in 1972 at Hamburg's Windrose Studios, was a bit like the early Emergency, with a full set of brass, a solid rhythm section and powerful vocals.
