Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has dismissed criticism of proposed changes to the carbon emissions safeguard mechanism. Under the reforms set out by the federal government, Australia’s biggest polluters will be required to reduce their emissions by around five per cent a year. But if they can't reach that target, they can buy offsets, which has drawn criticism from environmental groups.
