Day 6
Subject: Keeping it local on Instagram, [firstname]
Hi [firstname],
If you run a business that markets to a local following, Instagram can be a pretty powerful weapon in your armory. In fact, local marketing on Instagram is just so darned easy you'd think that's what the platform was designed for in the first place!
Say you run a clothing store. You can post pictures of your latest arrivals. You can tell people that inventory is limited, or even post a meme advertising a 'flash sale' offering a discount to anybody who makes a purchase in (say) the next 30 minutes. As people access Instagram on their smartphones, there's a good chance they will be out and therefore in a good position to swing by your store and make a purchase. When the sale is over, you can just delete the picture.
The same is true for restaurants, or any kind of 'bricks and mortar' business that relies on passing trade.
Instagram provides you with two very useful tools for local marketing: Location tagging and
local hashtags.
You can tag your images by location and this allows people to find where they were taken. This is a great way to improve your chances of being found by the local demographic you’re aiming for. After all, if you run a restaurant there’s not really much point in having followers all around the world, unless you’re planning on franchising soon!
Likewise, people will often look for hashtags in their local area so they can find out what's going on. It works the same way as it does on Twitter, so if you share your posts to Twitter as well, you can bring people in this way. You should also search for local hashtags regularly yourself and comment on and like the pictures that you find. This works particularly well for tourist attractions, and if you're near one, then it's easy to use Instagram to get yourself associated with it.
Warmly,
[Your Name]
