A company based in east London is one of the 15 finalists for the 2022 Earthshot Prize, which sees five winners receive one million pound grants for their environmental work. 'Notpla' produces various types of disposable packaging which are fully biodegradable - and even edible in the case of their 'Ohoo' drinks bubbles, which have been used instead of plastic bottles at the London Marathon. Co-founder Pierre Paslier acknowledges plastic is still cheaper than his products, but says the cost of oil-based packaging doesn't reflect the high cost that non-biodegradable plastic has on our enviroment. He says just being nominated for the Earthshot Prize, which is backed by Prince William, has been a boost for the company. This year's winners are announced in Boston on December 2nd 2022.
