Spain 1-1 Germany: Niclas Fullkrug's lashed leveller helps the Germans cling on to their World Cup hopes - but whether they qualify is out of their hands - after Alvaro Morata's fine opener
  • last year
MARTIN SAMUEL AT THE AL BAYT STADIUM Niclas Fullkrug's nickname is Lucke. Nothing lucky about the way he took his goal in Al Kohr, mind. Nothing lucky about the point that drags Germany back into this World Cup. Lucke has nothing to do with fortune anyway. It means gap, in German, and refers to the space between Fullkrug's front teeth. There was something of a lucke in the middle of Spain's defence, too, which allowed the Werder Bremen striker his moment of glory. This is something of a fairytale for him now. He wasn't an international footballer until the weeks prior to this tournament, the oldest player to make his debut for Germany in 20 years.
