Peter Gene Hernandez (born October 8, 1985), known professionally as Bruno Mars , is an American singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, record producer, and dancer. Born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii . Mars moved to Los Angeles in 2003 to pursue a music career. After being dropped from Motown Records, Mars signed a record deal with Atlantic Records in 2009. That same year, he co-founded a production team called The Smeezingtons, which was responsible for successful singles for Mars himself and other artists. In 2016, Shampoo Press & Curl replaced The Smeezingtons on the composition of Mars' third studio album, 24K Magic .

Mars rose to fame in 2010 with the release of the hit singles "Nothin' on You" by BoB and "Billionaire" by Travie McCoy , which featured Mars' vocals. His debut studio album Doo-Wops & Hooligans (2010) peaked at number three on the US Billboard 200 and topped the charts in Canada, Germany, Ireland, the Netherlands and in the United Kingdom. The album produced successful number one singles entitled " Just the Way You Are ", "Grenade" and " The Lazy Song ". "Just the Way You Are", won a Grammy Award for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance. Mars' second album, Unorthodox Jukebox (2012), peaked at number one on the US Billboard 200, Australia, Canada, Switzerland, and in the UK, winning a Grammy Award for Best Pop Vocal Album . Singles from such as "Locked Out of Heaven" and "When I Was Your Man" peaked at number one on the US Billboard Hot 100 . In 2014, Mars collaborated with Mark Ronson on " Uptown Funk ", which topped many charts around the world, including the US, Australia, Canada, New Zealand and the UK. The song won two Grammys, including Record of the Year . Her third studio album, which was focused on R&B, was titled24K Magic (2016), debuted at number two in the United States, Canada, and New Zealand. The album earned seven Grammys, in the categories Album of the Year , Record of the Year, and Song of the Year and spawned the hit singles "24K Magic", "That's What I Like" and "Finesse".
