  • last year
The Black Russian Terrier (Russian: усски pн терер), also known as the Chornyi Terrier (chornyi being Russian for black), is a breed of dog developed in the Soviet Union during the late 1940s and early 1950s in the Red Star (Krasnaya Zvezda) Kennel for use as military/working dogs. The Black Russian Terrier is currently recognized by the FCI (FCI since September 1983), AKC (AKC since July 2004), CKC, KC, ANKC, NZKC, and other cynological organizations. The modern Black Russian Terrier is a working dog, a guard dog, a sporting dog, and a companion dog.

Despite its name, the Black Russian Terrier is not a true terrier: it is believed that approximately seventeen breeds, including the Airedale, Giant Schnauzer, Rottweiler, Newfoundland, Caucasian Shepherd Dog, and others, were used in its development.
