ajnath Singh addressed a public gathering after unveiling the statue of Prithviraj Chauhan in Jhajjar at Haryana on Nov 13.

While addressing the gathering, Defence Minister said that the lotus flower was declared the national flower by the Indian government back in 1950.

He also said that during freedom fights, people fought for independence holding bread in one hand and the national flower in the other.

“Prime Minister released logo for G20 which featured lotus flower. Seeing that, people created a ruckus that it is the election symbol of BJP. The truth is that in 1950, the Government of India declared the lotus flower as the national flower. Lotus flower is associated with India’s cultural identity,” said Defense Minister Rajnath Singh

He also questioned, “When the first freedom struggle was fought in 1857, the freedom fighters fought for independence with bread in one hand and lotus flower in the other. Should it be abolished?”
