The treatment of Indigenous fishers by compliance officers has been found to be unacceptable by a state parliamentary inquiry. Diving for shellfish has been a part of life for many Aboriginal people on the South Coast for thousands of years, but in recent times many fishers have been prosecuted and even jailed.
