Annie, who sleeps in the family bed, wakes and alerts sleeping Matthew's wife Catherine, 31, who quickly takes charge.
She is a great help to the couple as Catherine suffers from hearing loss, which can sometimes make it more difficult for her to help Matthew when he is about to, or is having, a seizure.
