Rees-Mogg: Energy revenue limit not a windfall tax
  • 2 years ago
Jacob Rees-Mogg denies that government plans for a cap on the revenues of renewable energy generators and nuclear power plants amount to a windfall tax. The business secretary says the cap "is the formalisation of something that is natural follow-through from the government's intervention on making energy affordable over the winter" and "not a windfall tax of any kind". The announcement that the government would introduce a "cost-plus revenue limit" prompted immediate accusations that it was trying to smuggle in a windfall tax through the back door.
