Orphan hailed from the Boston area, coming from school dances to bigger venues. After many line-up changes in 1972 they released "Everyone lives to sing" for the London label. The sound is made of strong country components with a folk direction soaked with pop hints. During 1970s and 1980s Orphan had a long association with Jonathan Edwards, with shared songs and performing on each other's recordings , as well as with Tom Rush, going on the road with him, and backing him on vocals and guitar.
