Census data has revealed more than a million houses are sitting empty around Australia. Many of them are holiday homes in popular coastal towns but others are located in inland mining and farm towns which have fallen on tough times. At the same time the nation is in teh midst of a housing shortage with families sleeping in cars or tents because a lack of rentals.
