Tension escalated in Chennai on Monday after the Madras High Court gave the green signal for the general council meeting of the AIADMK to take place on July 11.
Hours before the Madras High Court decision, Edappadi K Palaniswami (EPS) and O Panneerselvam (OPS) factions resorted to stone-pelting. Supporters of both leaders attacked each other with sticks and chairs on the streets.
EPS and OPS are locked in an intense tussle for unitary leadership of the All India Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK). With the HC's decision, Palaniswami is likely to take over the reins of the party.
